Have you ever found yourself talking to God? And talking to God is like when you talk to your best friend. Also, sometimes when you pray, your prayers are not answered. Why? Because you do not pray the right way. But in this article, you will learn the four things to consider when praying to God.

So, here are the four things to consider when talking to God in prayer

1) Talking To God: Talking And Listening To God (Zechariah 13:9 and Ephesians 6:17-19)

Ephesians 6:17-19 17And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION. The Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. 18 With all prayer and petition, pray [with specific requests] at all times [on every occasion and in every season] in the Spirit, and with this in view, stay alert with all perseverance and petition [interceding in prayer] for all God’s people. 19 And pray for me, that words may be given to me when I open my mouth, to proclaim the mystery of the good news boldly [of Salvation].

Every day you talk to people; your families, friends, co-workers, neighbours, and schoolmates. However, Is God part of the list of the people you talk to daily? And prayer is precisely that. So, what it means is talking and listening to God. Most importantly, people need to communicate to have a relationship with others. But, you pray to God daily so that you can have a relationship with him. That’s why prayer is essential. Meanwhile, even when people pray and talk to God, they don’t always realize that God speaks back because He desires to be in constant communication with us throughout our days, weeks, and entire lives.

So, how often do we talk to God?

2) Talking To God: Be Honest And Be Open To Him (Matthew 6:7-15, and Romans 8:26)

Matthew 6:7-15 7 And when you pray, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 So do not be like them [praying as they do]; for your, Father knows what you need before you ask Him. 9 Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors [letting go of both the wrong and the resentment]. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [for your kingdom and the power and the glory forever amen.]’ 14 If you forgive others their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins], your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others [nurturing your hurt and anger with the result that it interferes with your relationship with God], then your Father will not forgive your trespasses.

Explaining further

So, have you ever prayed out loud in front of other people? And you know it can be tough at times to know what to say when speaking to God. But, prayer means truthfully talking and listening to God. And it doesn’t have to be complicated. Also, you don’t have to show off with big words. So, What’s most important is that when you talk to God, you speak to Him from your heart.

Meanwhile, be honest and open; get to know Him like when talking to a best friend. So, the more you pray and speak to God, the closer you’ll become to Him. Finally, you’ll know His love and God better when you become closer to Him.

So my questions to you are; How do you usually pray to God? What do you usually talk to Him about?

3) Trust God Always (Psalm 145:18, and Jeremiah 33:2-3)

Jeremiah 33:2-3 2Thus says the LORD who made the earth, the LORD who formed it to establish it-the LORD is His name, 3 Call to Me and I will answer you, and tell you [and even show you] great and mighty things, [things which have been confined and hidden], which you do not know and understand and cannot distinguish.

God is always available to hear us when we pray. And He listens anytime we talk to Him. That never changes. But we cannot always predict how God answers our prayers when He listens to us. And He may not answer our prayers at the exact moment we want or how we think it should happen. But that doesn’t mean He isn’t still in control and working worldwide.

God doesn’t ask us only to trust Him when we don’t understand everything happening. But, He also asks us to trust Him always, believing He is our friend taking care of us in ways we don’t even know.

4) To Shape Us And Change Our Hearts To Be Like Him (Romans 12:2, Psalm 4:1, Colossians 4:2, and James 5:16)

Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].

Have you ever been bullied? If yes! You know, no one enjoys that. And when people are mean to us, it hurts us and can make us angry or sad. However, when things happen in life that we don’t like, we might pray to God for Him to stop the bad things from happening or to stop people from being mean to us. But the truth is – praying to God is not just about having Him change situations or how other people treat us. And there’s another important reason we pray to God. Above all, when we pray to God, it doesn’t just have the power to change others, but it has the power to change who we are.

When we pray and remain connected with God, He shapes us and changes our hearts to be like His. So, why do you think God wants us to keep praying for things even if it takes a while for Him to answer our prayers?
