Are you looking for the best ways to love? Whether it is yourself, God, or your fellow humans. Are you finding it hard to love? And if Yes! You will learn what love is all about, the three different types of love, and what love is and is not. And all the bible verses they come from. So, let’s dive in by describing what love is.

What Is Love?

There is no way to describe love other than to say God is love. Let’s see how the Bible describes love in 1 John 4:7-12. “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this, the love of God was manifested toward us that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to propitiate our sins. Beloved, if God loved us, we should also love one another. No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and love has been perfected in us.”

So, we will list the three types of love below with their bible verses.

We have different types of love, which are

  1. God’s love for us
  2. Our love for God
  3. Our love for one another

1) God’s Love For Us

In this type of love, God’s love is even stronger than death, and nothing can separate us from God’s love. Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither present nor the future; nor any powers, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

God’s love seeks to draw us to Him. Jeremiah 31:3 “The Lord appeared to me (Israel) from ages past, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving-kindness, I have drawn you and continued My faithfulness to you.”

God’s love is sacrificial. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

God’s love lasts forever. Psalm 136:1 “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His mercy endures forever.”

2) The other types of love is Our Love For God

Our love for God should be like a fire, more potent than death. Song of Solomon 8:6 “Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the Lord.”

Our love for God is shown through keeping His commandments. 1 John 5:3 “For the love of God is this, that we obey His commandments are not burdensome.”

Let’s not let our love for God to weaken. Revelations 2:4-5 “Yet there is one thing wrong; you don’t love me as at first! Think about those times of your first love (how different now!) and return to me again and work as you did before.”

3) Our Love For One Another

God has told us to love one another. 1 John 4:20-21 “If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen; how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.”

Love your enemies. Matthew 5:43-44 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use and persecute you.”

Let’s see how the Bible describes our love towards our fellow humans. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

What love is and what love is not

Love is the foundation of God’s law. Matthew 22:37-40 “Jesus says to him, “’ you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

Love is deep and priceless. Song of Solomon, 8:7 “Many glasses of water, cannot quench love, nor any floods drown it. If a man gave for love all the wealth of his house, it would be utterly despised.”

Love does not cause fear. 1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

Love does not expect anything in return. Luke 6:32 “But if you [only] love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.”

Love is willing to give yourself up to others. John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”

Love is not just a feeling but takes all that we have. Deuteronomy 6:5 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”

Love releases power and anointing.
